Informed Consent for Treatment

Last updated June 15, 2026.

This page explains what to expect from psychiatric treatment at Paraview Behavioral Health so you can make informed decisions about your care. You will be asked to review and sign a consent form when you establish care; this page summarizes what that consent covers.

The care we provide

Paraview Behavioral Health provides outpatient psychiatric care, including diagnostic evaluations and medication management, delivered by board-certified psychiatric providers. Care typically begins with a comprehensive evaluation, followed by ongoing follow-up visits to monitor your response and adjust your plan. We coordinate with your therapist and other providers when that is part of your care.

Benefits and risks of treatment

Psychiatric treatment, including medication, can reduce symptoms and improve daily functioning and quality of life. As with any medical treatment, results vary from person to person and cannot be guaranteed. Medications can have side effects, which your provider will discuss with you, and finding the right treatment sometimes takes more than one adjustment. You are encouraged to ask questions and share concerns at any point, and you may decline or stop any recommended treatment.

Telehealth care

We offer visits by secure video as well as in person. Telehealth has real benefits, including convenience and access, and some limitations: your provider cannot perform a hands-on physical exam by video, and technology can occasionally fail. By choosing a telehealth visit, you consent to receiving care this way and understand that your provider may recommend an in-person visit or another level of care if it is clinically appropriate. You should be located in Maryland (or another state where your provider is licensed) at the time of a telehealth visit.

Not for emergencies

Our care is outpatient and is not appropriate for emergencies. If you are in crisis, thinking about harming yourself or others, or experiencing a medical emergency, call or text 988, call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. We do not provide emergency or crisis services and do not monitor messages around the clock.

Confidentiality and its limits

Your care is confidential and protected under HIPAA, as described in our Privacy Policy. The law requires us to break confidentiality in limited situations, including a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, or a valid court order.

Prescribing practices

Our providers practice evidence-based, conservative prescribing. Certain controlled substances may require an in-person evaluation, ongoing monitoring, a treatment agreement, or referral, consistent with state and federal rules and good clinical practice. Your provider will explain what applies to your situation.

Financial responsibility

By consenting to treatment, you also agree to the financial terms described on our Insurance & Payments page, including responsibility for copays, coinsurance, deductibles, self-pay amounts, and any cancellation or no-show fees.

Your consent and your rights

You have the right to ask questions, seek a second opinion, and participate in decisions about your care. Consent to treatment is voluntary, and you may withdraw it at any time, though stopping certain medications suddenly can carry risks, so we encourage you to discuss any changes with your provider first.

Questions about this consent can be directed to our front office at (301) 524-4659 or contact@paraviewhealth.com.
